You think your interview went pretty well with the Logistics Director. You built up a good rapport and you really want to work for this company. You did your homework by researching the business throughly and you felt you answered the questions confidently. So, what can you do to increase your chances of being asked back for a second interview?

1. Send a follow up email

Writing a short email saying thank you to the person or people who interviewed you, not only shows good manners, it demonstrates how keen you are to work there and it helps build relationships. You may not know how many other logistics candidates you are up against for the role. Using this simple method will put your name at the top of the list.

2. Recall your answers from the interview and make notes

Jot down your answers to the interviewer's questions, try and remember as much as you can - this will really help you recall the facts if you get invited back for a second interview. If you can do this quickly, you should remember your answers. Think, were there tricky questions you could have answered more concisely or with better examples? If you are working with an executive search consultant, talk through your responses with them, they will be happy to advise you on your weaker answers and how to tackle these at your second interview. They should be very experienced in placing people in the logistics sector, and could offer you some key valuable advice.

3. Keep searching for your next logistics role

Whilst waiting to hear feedback, work with your search consultant to see if there are any other logistics roles they think you may be suitable for. An interview doesn't guarantee a job offer, so you need to keep an eye out for other job opportunities, you never know what might be around the corner, as situations change all the time. You may even find yourself in a great position where you get offered two logistics positions.

4. Touch base with a phone call or email

If after a few days you haven't received any feedback, making a quick follow up call to the HR department will demonstrate you are serious about the role. Keep the conversation short and polite.

Using these four tips doesn't guarantee you your next job, but it will certainly help bring you closer to being offered your new logistics role. By covering all the options and using a knowledgable search consultant who really knows their market, you can vastly improve your chances.
